New models of watches may be dedicated to anything. The only condition - it should be at least slightly related to the world of horology. It could be a major event (a fair or a watch show), it could be a sport competition, where this or that watch brand is one of the sponsors and it could be a great personality of sports, of art or anything else (though the person should be somehow related to the brand). However in some cases it can also be a boat.
The Omega Seamaster NZL-32 Chronograph was dedicated to a yacht, but not just an ordinary one. You realize that not every boat deserves a homage-watch from a world famous watch brand, such as Omega.
The Chronograph NZL-32 was dedicated to the famous boat NZL-32 and its Emirates Team New Zeeland, which won the America's Cup back in 1995. The timepiece was developed with the help of the New Zeeland's Team skipper and Omega ambassador Dean Barker.
The most distinctive feature of the watch is its special function, developed for regatta skippers. This device represents a system of five dots indicator. The dots fill in gradually with different colors - firstly comes blue and then red. This function was called "start of regatta". People familiar with regatta know, that this means the 10 minutes preceding the start of the regatta. Each color has its meaning: blue means the first five minutes from those 10 before the start and red means the last five minutes before the start.
The chronograph is powered by caliber 3602, which is a self-winding movement certified by C.O.S.C. Its power reserve consists 40 hours.
The silverfish hour markers on the silver-black dial have special luminous dots above each hour marker, so that the skipper can see the right time under any circumstances. As for the other horological functions of the timepiece, it includes the chronograph itself. It consists of the 30 minutes' sub dial at 3 o'clock, the small seconds display at 9 o'clock and the 12 hour counter at 12 o'clock. The minutes sub dial has the ten minutes marked the same way, as the "start of regatta" function: there is a curved line, marking the 10 minutes' division, where 0 to 5 minutes is marked with light blue, and 5 to 10 - with red.
The hands of the HZL-32 are all covered with Luminova to provide maximum readability and the chronographs hands are marked with red. The buttons controlling the chronograph are situated at 8 and 10 o'clock, thus giving the Seamaster an exclusive look.
The back of this Seamaster has a seahorse engraved on it. The seahorse is the unchangeable symbol of Omega's Seamaster. The case back and the crown are screwed-in, thus ensuring a water resistance down to 500 feet (150 meters).
The choice of straps is not quite large, but their quality is undisputable. You can choose between a stainless steel bracelet and white-stitched black rubber strap.
