The Oris Watch Company was founded by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian and based in Holstein, Switzerland in 1904. It has an established relationship with the worlds of sport, music, and the arts.

Georges Christian was born in 1875 in Le Locle. After Paul Cattins departed in 1917, he became the exclusive owner.

The company was named Oris after a valley near Holstein. The origins of the word "oris" was formed from the Celtic-Roman word 'aurisa,' meaning river.

1904: Paul Cattin and Georges Christian established Oris Watches Company, having employed 435 workers.

1925: Oris opened its own electroplating factory.

1938: The legendary indicator calendar came into production, representing a milestone in the history of Oris. Ever since, the pointer calendar has always been included in the Oris collection.

1949: Oris has established a famous name for quality alarm clocks. For the first time, the company introduced an alarm clock. Even today, these timepieces still remain in use.

1952: Oris produced its first automatic activity cal. 601, with a power reserve display.

1966: World-famous Oris automatic movement cal. 645, with 25-jewel lever escapement, went into production.

1968: Oris procured full chronometer certification. This award for movement cal. 652 is among the highest forms of recognition that exist for accuracy and the best quality.

1970: Oris launched its first chronograph.

1988: Oris introduced its first mechanical alarm wristwatch in a limited edition.

1989: Oris developed a new version of the indicator calendar watch with automatic pointer.

1990 : Oris produced the watch for counting and measuring. This combination of watch and counter mechanism issued to Ferdinand Surdez, was further developed by Oris and sold in a limited edition.

1991: Oris produced the first automatic Complication watch. Besides hours, minutes and seconds, this watch also displayed the phase of the moon, the date, the day of the week and a second time zone. From its initial design this product became well-established and sold at the worldwide market.

1993: Oris developed and issued the new movement cal. 640 with a small second dial positioned at 9 o'clock and with an indicator calendar.

1994: Oris produced a limited edition of 90 watches in 18-carat solid rose gold, individually numbered, to remind of its 90th anniversary.

1996: Oris became sponsor of London Jazz Festival. This played an important role in the Oris communications strategy.

1997: Oris presented the World timer with Oris movement 690. It was the first watch to feature two analogue time displays that incorporated push-button time adjustment. In the same year a limited series of 250 Jules Verne solid-gold watches was produced, adapted with the World timer Chronometer movement.

2000: The Oris XXL line made a major entry into the watch world. As the name suggested, this range is characterized by models of impressive dimensions. For the first time, a new collection is brought out in three sizes and three movement varieties.

2001: With the Big Crown TT1, Oris added new momentum to its performance watches. A black rubber top ring on stainless steel was combined with a strap that mirrors the vertical tread pattern of Formula-1 tyres.

2002: The new line Oris Miles was produced with the Special Edition of 750 watches, Oris set a Milestone of cool elegance. In Formula -1 Oris associated itself with the driver Allan McNish.

2003 : Oris signed an agreement to become the exclusive watch partner of the BMW WilliamsF1 Team.The Oris Limited Edition WilliamsF1 Team Chronograph: the most successful Oris watch in that year. With the Art collection, Oris designed an extraordinary watch case appropriate for entirely different types of movements.

2004: Oris celebrated its 100th anniversary and launched the Oris Centennial set 1904 Limited Edition, including the Art World timer in stainless steel and a watch with an 8 day movement.

Ralf Schumacher- driver of the BMW WilliamsF1 Team, became the new Ambassador for Oris. Oris launched a special limited edition timepiece under his name - the Ralf Schumacher Limited Edition Chronograph.

2005: Oris extended its sponsorship engagement as an on-car sponsor and launched two new limited editions of the WilliamsF1 Team collection. Oris dedicated an exclusive watch collection to the Frank Sinatra.
