In 2007 Officine Panerai has taken the challenge of becoming the official sponsor of the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge, the event prominent for its exciting competitive atmosphere. Exclusive Ferrari automobiles produced till 1982 participate in the championship. The Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge is closely related to the House of Maranello.

The event is usually held in two series - in North America and Europe. Its schedule also includes the Ferrari World Finals, the traditionally organized final event that takes place in both countries. All the Ferrari cars that are to participate in the Shell Ferrari are referred to separate categories according to their special characteristics. The major categories are the following - pre-war single-seaters, Ferrari with drum brakes of 1950s -1960s , Ferrari with disc brakes, developed up to 1982.

Among the registered Ferrari-car participants there are five dating back to the period of 1934 -1939. The period of creation of these iconic Ferrari car models coincided in time with the creation of the initial Radiomir watch developed by Giuseppe Panerai in Florence, the city located not far away from the House of Maranello. The first Panerai Radiomir watch was appreciated as a timepiece of technically sophisticated nature. It initiated the series of the brand's timekeepers commissioned by the Italian Navy.

The between the two internationally famous producers started when Panerai took the decision to produce a series of timepieces to honor the name of Ferrari. The brands share the common values - innovative spirit, advanced technology, and prestige of their products. The Panerai sponsorship provided to the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge marked another important stage in the firm partnership between Panerai and Ferrari.

In 2007 avid fans of Panerai and Ferrari will be delighted to witness the appearance of eight new Panerai watches to enter the brand's famous Ferrari engineered by Panerai range. Four of these timepieces will join the Granturismo Collection, and two - the Scuderia Collection. The brand will also launch two special editions to pay tribute to the 60th anniversary of the House of Maranello.
