The Sporty Classic: Rolex Air-King Series
Contrary to popular opinion, many luxury companies did not stand aside from the war. One of these luxury manufacturers is Rolex. The watches produced by the company often helped soldiers to keep track of time in the field during World War II. For instance, so many pilots used Rolex timepieces during the 1940 Battle of Britain that the founder of the company, flattered by this, created a watch series in tribute to the Royal Air Force fighter pilots. The Air line included such watches as “Air Lion", “Air Tiger” and, of course, “Air King”. In the early ‘60s, the collection was discontinued. The only survivor was the Rolex Air-King that still remains in production.
